Q1. What is DePIN?

DePIN - Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks refers to a network of blockchain related protocols/technologies that enable the development, maintenance, and operation of physical hardware infrastructure in a decentralized and open manner.

These networks leverage the strengths of blockchain technology, such as immutability, transparency, and security, to facilitate the creation of peer-to-peer networks that meet their goals in a more efficient manner.

The DePIN industry today covers infrastructure for data storage, wireless connectivity, computing, energy, data collection, and more. Filecoin, Helium are two good examples

Q2. What is WeatherXM?

WeatherXM is a weather DePIN project that utilizes a dense network of community-deployed weather stations, to provide the most accurate weather services possible.

People join the network by operating weatherxm compatible stations and get rewarded for the data they produce in WXM ERC20 tokens. Companies that want to use the weather data, need to buy licenses paid in WXM tokens.

So our goal is to build a global meteorological organization that is powered and controlled by the community that operates the weather infrastructure, directly addressing their own weather data & forecasting needs.

Our network already counts more than 5k stations deployed in 80+ countries generating real time weather data and more accurate hyperlocal forecasts that weather dependent businesses need.

Q3. Why do we need weather data & who is it for?

More than 1/3 of the global economy is affected by weather.

From agriculture, to energy, to supply chains, weather data is critical for forecasting and decision making.
Historically, data collection has centered on governments spending billions of dollars each year
to gather and analyze weather data. Their work is required but is not very efficient, resulting in less accurate weather forecasts for everyday people and businesses in many places of the world, e.g. in poor countries.

Climate change, makes things worst, for the ones who dont have a dense weather infrastructure

The result you see is every day, if you check the weather forecast from multiple weather apps you see contradicting forecasts, because different gov models yield different results so all but one are wrong.. Or often all are wrong if you check the weather 1-2 weeks ahead.
