Oasys Releases Technology Roadmap to Advance Blockchain Game Development

Oasys, as a public blockchain for games in Japan, is committed to bringing Web2 players and game companies into the Web3 era, building the underlying infrastructure for the blockchain gaming sector. On the occasion of its second anniversary, Oasys released an important technical roadmap, proposing corresponding solutions based on current technical challenges and user pain points, and has made short-term and mid-term technical plans.

The three core components of the roadmap are application data availability, layer two interoperability, and ecosystem scalability. These solutions aim to address the key technical challenges in the development of blockchain games.

Technical Challenges Faced by Blockchain Games

Despite the continuous improvement of the underlying technology of blockchain, there are still some technical shortcomings in the practice of Oasys:

1. Continuity of Game Assets

In traditional Web2 games, if the game server goes down, players' game assets will also disappear. Blockchain technology provides a foundation for solving the issue of digital sovereignty. However, with the popularity of modular architecture, abandoning data on Layer2 may lead to a lack of continuity in user assets.

The solution proposed by Oasys is to mirror game assets from Layer 2 to Layer 1, ensuring that even if Layer 2 data is discarded, user assets remain safe.

2. Interoperability of Layer 2

Oasys's Layer2 is called Verse Layer, and each Layer 2 network is an independent "small universe". However, the interoperability between Layer 2s is limited, making data and asset transfer difficult.

Oasys plans to introduce a cross-chain bridge, adopting a universal data format and standardizing APIs to achieve seamless interoperability between different Layer 2s. This will enable users to easily and securely move data and assets between games on Oasys.

3. Ecosystem Scalability

Building and maintaining a unique ecosystem is a significant challenge. Oasys closely collaborates with ecosystem partners to provide them with the necessary tools and resources, supporting ecosystem development and reducing technical barriers.

Oasys Verse Development Kit ( Oasys VDK ) allows enterprises to quickly develop and deploy high-quality Layer 2 using pre-set ecosystem components, accelerating project launches and focusing on content development.

Technical Roadmap Focus on Updates within 1-3 Years

Oasys's technical roadmap is divided into short-term (within 1 year) and mid-term (2-3 years) plans:

Short-term plan (within 1 year)

1. Standardization of game asset specifications: Collaborate with ecosystem partners to ensure consistency across different games and platforms.
2. Create Use Cases: Develop cases for the application of standardized game asset specifications in real-time games.
3. Provide Oasys Verse Development Kit: Helping enterprises quickly access high-quality Layer 2 with preset ecosystem components.

Mid-term plan (2-3 years)

1. Solve protocol layer issues: Implement solutions to mirror Layer 2 game assets to Layer 1.
2. Achieve interoperability: Develop standardized protocols to ensure interoperability between different Layer 2.
3. Provide developer tools: meet Layer2 needs and promote the scalability of the ecosystem.

Oasys has made progress in short-term planning. In May, Oasys launched the L2 chain XPLA Verse, with several well-known games going on-chain simultaneously. In addition, the blockchain game "Captain Tsubasa -RIVALS-", based on the Japanese soccer manga "Captain Tsubasa", was officially launched on Oasys.

In terms of expanding the ecosystem, Oasys collaborates with Japan's SBI Group to enhance its influence in the crypto gaming and NFT market in Japan. In February this year, Oasys also partnered with Kakao's Web3 gaming division, Metabora SG, to support its expansion into the Japanese market.
