Oracle Corp. is spending "billions of dollars" on chips from Nvidia Corp. to expand cloud computing for a new wave of artificial intelligence, its founder and chairman Larry Ellison said on Wednesday, Reuters reported on June 29. Serve.
Oracle's cloud unit is struggling to take on bigger rivals such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Corp. To gain an edge, Oracle has set its sights on building fast networks that can handle the massive amounts of data needed for AI systems like ChatGPT. Oracle has also purchased large numbers of GPUs, which it uses to crunch data for artificial intelligence work. Ellison said at the Ampere conference that Oracle spent "billions" of dollars buying Nvidia chips.
