Gannett, the largest newspaper group in the United States, introduces generative AI, retaining the final decision of human editors
According to news from IT House on June 18, Gannett, the largest newspaper group in the United States, plans to introduce generative artificial intelligence into its news publishing system to save costs and improve efficiency. But the group said it would involve human editors to prevent AI from auto-publishing without oversight.
Gannett is understood to be launching a real-time pilot next quarter that uses artificial intelligence to identify the most important points in an article and create a bulleted summary at the top, with the feature rolling out to USA Today in the fourth quarter. Journalists will have the final say on whether to use AI-powered content, and Gannett will eventually incorporate the summarization technology into its publishing system. In addition, Gannett is developing a generative AI tool that can break up long-form stories into different lengths and formats, such as creating slideshows with bullet points or captions on photos.
