Bitcoin hits a new all-time high, spot ETF achieves great success

In 2024, Bitcoin prices reached a historic high. The Bitcoin spot ETF became one of the most successful ETF products in history, raising over $4 billion on its first day of trading. After the 4th halving, the annual inflation rate of Bitcoin dropped to about 0.9%, lower than the long-term supply growth rate of gold. Although the halving resulted in a reduction of miners' income by half, the Bitcoin network's hash rate still reached a new high, demonstrating miners' strong confidence in the long-term outlook.

Bitcoin's daily trading volume soared, thanks to the launch of the Runes protocol. In 2024, Bitcoin successfully absorbed the massive selling pressure brought by the German government's and Mt. Gox's liquidation. More and more listed companies started holding Bitcoin on their balance sheets, with the total value increasing from $11 billion in 2023 to $55 billion.

In enterprises, AI agents will enhance productivity through software. AI customer service products launched by companies like OpenAI and Salesforce are replacing human customer service in a cost-effective manner. AI is reshaping the software value chain and accelerating the software development cycle. By 2030, global software spending growth could accelerate from an average of 14% over the past decade to 18%-48%.

Stablecoin trading volume surpasses Mastercard and Visa, becoming the fastest-growing digital asset.

In 2024, the annual trading volume of stablecoins will reach $15.6 trillion, which is approximately 119% and 200% of Visa and Mastercard, respectively. Tether and Circle dominate the stablecoin market, collectively accounting for 90% of the total supply. The supply of stablecoins is $203 billion, accounting for about 0.97% of the M2 money supply in the United States.

Stablecoins are aligning with the US dollar, while some countries are gradually abandoning the dollar. Stablecoins account for 35%-50% of on-chain trading volume, with US dollar stablecoins making up over 98%. Retail investors are flocking to Layer 2 for cheaper stablecoin trading. Peer-to-peer trading and personal wallet storage are the main uses of stablecoins.

The four major stablecoin issuers dominate digital asset revenue. Tether's profits reached as high as $5.2 billion in the first half of 2024, making it one of the most capital-efficient businesses. Stablecoin issuers are transferring part of the risk-free interest rates to users.

It is expected that by 2030, the proportion of stablecoins in the global M2 supply may increase from 0.17% to 0.9%, becoming the 13th largest circulating currency in the world.
