The founder of "Neo Pets" makes a powerful return to create the Web3 open-world game Dragginz.
Web3 Game Pioneers Couple Create New Blockchain Game Dragginz
"Neopets" is a classic web game that once had 140 million players. Now, its founders Adam Powell and Donna Williams are developing a Web3 game called Dragginz, which aims to combine the elements of "pet raising" and "open world."
Dragginz is built on the Internet Computer Blockchain, aiming to attract players from around the world to participate without requiring any knowledge of cryptocurrency. The game utilizes the reverse Gas model of the Internet Computer, meaning players do not need to pay Gas fees and are unaware that the game is built on a Blockchain.
Donna stated that Dragginz is their realization of the initial concept of Neopets. As early as 2014, they considered building this game in Web3. During the Neopets era, they struggled with management to gain more resources to develop the core content of the game, and this time they hope to prioritize the game content over profits.
Dragginz is a free massive multiplayer online game. Players possess a dragon egg, which can be used to craft items to hatch and evolve pets, and then venture or trade in a vast game world. The game offers various gameplay options, allowing players to become the owner of the strongest pets, the most powerful spells, or the most delicious recipes.
In Dragginz, NFTs are not just images. For example, each body part of a pet is an NFT, and players need to collect all the parts to unlock and use the pet. Players can also create spells with various uses and convert them into NFTs to sell to other players.
Dragginz will be renamed DKP(, which uses SNS-1) as its governance token. Holders can vote on the development roadmap to choose which pets, skins, and storylines to add. The game will never have advertisements or sponsorships; it is a self-sustaining game world.
The development team expects Dragginz to launch in the second half of 2024 or early 2025. They aim to create a game with outstanding content that can attract players from around the world without the need for cryptocurrency knowledge. Donna believes that if an attractive high-quality game is developed, mainstream players will naturally turn to Web3.
