U.S. Senator warns: New encryption bill may lead public companies to evade SEC regulation
On July 10, according to reports, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren issued a warning that if a bill aimed at regulating the Crypto Assets market becomes law, publicly traded companies may circumvent U.S. securities law.
During a hearing on Wednesday held by the Senate Banking Committee regarding legislation on the structure of the crypto market, senior committee member Warren stated that she supports regulatory measures for digital assets that can enhance the U.S. financial system, but expressed serious concerns about the House's consideration of the Digital Asset Market Transparency Act (the CLARITY Act).
Warren pointed out that the bill could allow "non-encryption companies" to circumvent the regulation of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) through asset tokenization. According to this bill in the House of Representatives, publicly traded companies like Meta or Tesla can completely escape SEC regulation by simply putting their stocks on the Block.
