This time, OpenAI has chosen to return to its open-source roots – this marks the first time OpenAI has open-sourced a language model since GPT-2 in 2019. Altman candidly stated: it has been a thought for a long time, but it has never been prioritized. Now the timing is right, and the team believes "this matter has become important."
