According to foreign media reports, Denmark admitted on Thursday that it had neglected the defense of Greenland, a vast and strategically important Arctic island, for a long time. Earlier, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said that acquiring the sovereign territory of Denmark was vital to U.S. security. For many years, we have neglected to make the necessary investments in ships and aircraft that will help monitor our kingdom. Now we are trying to do something about it,said Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said late Thursday that she had asked for a meeting with Trump, but that it was not expected to happen before Trump's inauguration. U.S. troops have a long-standing presence at the Pituffik bearish traders base in northwestern Greenland.
